Top 15 Banned Video Games
15. NARC was banned in 2005 in Australia. Why? In the game players are given the freedom to either play it straight or use the drugs they seize, with the drugs acting as ‘power-ups’ for the game characters. Using marijuana for example, slows down time, while taking LSD makes identifying criminals easier as they appear with devil heads. As a result the Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) refused classification (RC) on the game.
14. 50 Cent: Bulletproof was banned in 2005 in Australia. Why? The Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) said they were turned off by the arcade mode’s slow motion counter-kills methods. To quote: “The counter kills are enacted in detail, they are prolonged and take place in close up and slow motion. The most impactful of the counter kills involve knives and on-screen blood splatter. The Review Board determined that the impact of this mode was high and could not be accommodated at MA15+ classification. Therefore the game must be refused classification,” Maureen Shelley, convenor of the OFLC said. Truth is, this game should’ve been banned for sucking.
13. Wolfenstein 3D was banned in 1994 in Germany. Why? Germany has an extremely strict censorship on videogames, which results in enemies having green blood or ending up completely as robots. Because in this game the object is to kill Nazis (and thus it contains swastika flags or portraits of Adolf Hitler) it’s listed by German court alongside racist propaganda pieces and became forbidden.

In-Game Ads for Quake Wars
It seems like this is the new way to cover costs for online games these days. I understand why they are doing this but is it intrusive and does it ruin your gaming enjoyment? It doesn't matter to me. I've played a game with in-game ads; 9Dragons, and it didn't bother me. Here's the full scoop on In-Game Ads for Quake Wars.

The State of MMORPGs
The MMO game design has not evolved nearly as fast as it should have for the past 10 years. These current MMOs to date have the same elements that were built around Ultima Online and EverQuest. The element of grinding, static respawn zones, and damage over time. Here's a good article where Richard Garriott from NCsoft speaks about the state of MMORPGs.

SOE Announces The Agency and Screens/Trailer
Sony Online Entertainment, (SOE) a global leader in the online gaming industry, announced it is developing The Agency™, a fast-paced online action shooter filled with espionage, intrigue and betrayal. The Agency is being developed at SOE’s Seattle studio for both the PC and the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.
This is an interesting MMO. I wouldn't mind trying out this new game. But knowing the reputation of SOE, I do not really have high expectations. It doesn't hurt to try new games though. New screens and trailer inside!

ATI Radeon HD 2000 - Tessellation Tech Demo
The tessellation support contained in the ATI Radeon HD 2000 series allows for the generation of highly detailed geometry from simple base meshes and displacement maps. Behold the power in the ATI Radeon HD 2000 series! Although I still prefer Nvidia. My 8800 GTS is one kick ass card.

The Future of Gaming
We know there are many geeks out there who play video games. Even if they try to deny it, we know they game. Anyway, since the first mmorpg that was released which I believe is Ultima Online. Since that time, the explosion of the mmorpg genre rise to insane proportions. Much thanks to World of Warcraft who in my opinion really generated the popularity for mmorpgs. The first mmorpg that I got hooked into was Everquest. Boy was this a really great game! Too bad it's a stinky ever since SOE aquired them. But, will the increase growth of mmorpgs push other gaming genres to extinction? Specifically singleplayer rpgs like Oblivion, Gothic 3, Knights of the Old Republic, Dungeon Siege II, and etc.
In my opinion, if the continuing trend of mmorpgs consistently increases, we may see the end of singleplayer rpgs and developers opting to only go with online gaming. The first rpg game that really got me hooked was Deus Ex. Well, this game was a hybrid of fps/rpg. But its rpg element was really really good!
So I ask you my fellow geeks, is the future of gaming will be only online gaming? Are we destined to be conquered by mmorpgs of the future? I believe so!

Guild Whiners Get the Boot?
If you have played an MMORPG, chances that you have been in a guild are pretty high. And we've experienced the goodness and downright ugliness when an individual(s) in the guild becomes disruptive because they felt that they were mistreated for personal reason(s). I came across this blog where a guildmaster of this particular World of Warcraft guild had a former member who became disruptive and eventually sabotaged other members within the guild as an act of revenge. The combination of immaturity and rudeness behavior is one thing that shouldn't be tolerated. In my opinion, the guildmaster and the officers of the guild did the right thing. But I believe they should've given the disruptive member the boot a long time ago! I am quite sure that your guild or the guild(s) that you've been in had a similar situation like this before. I know I have. You can read the entirety of the guildmaster's blog here,

American vs. Asian MMOs
There are many MMOs in the market right now which are mostly dominated by American and Asian developers. I enjoy both kinds of MMOs but if I had to choose only one, it would be American MMOs. Well, saying American isn't correct. Western MMOs; American and European. The good thing about Asian MMOs is that most of them are free! While most Western MMOs have subscription fees. Graphically, in my opinion Western MMOs look better. You don't have to take my word for it. Check'em out for yourself.

Lord of the Boring Online: Shadows of Dullness
Okay, I am a fan of Lord of the Rings, yes I am a geek. Anyway, my friend sent me a buddy key for this online game called Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar. It's a 10-day trial for anyone who wants to give this game a go. Well, I finally tried it a few days ago and I thought it was boring! It was like any other average MMO, nothing really special. To be honest, after playing for about an hour, I got bored. All you do is pick up quests, go kill monsters, return to receive your reward. It's like a rinse and repeat process...
From my understanding, LOTRO(Lord of the Rings Online) is a game that focuses on the PvE(player versus environment) aspect. Boring. Where's the PvP(player versus player)? I mean, a MMO without PvP? This is unheard of. Well, may be not but I mean come on. Where's the challenge and excitement? I know this game has something called MPvP(monster play versus player) or whatever it's abbreviated. Boring.
But I guess one thing good about this game is the upcoming huge update Shores of Evendim. You can read all about it on the link below. This will make fellow LOTROers happy! This game isn't for me.
Shores of Evendim
Anyway, that's my 2 cents on Lord of the Boring Online: Shadows of Dullness.
City of Heroes Coming To Big Screen
I'm also a fan of massive multiplayer online gaming. I have tried City of Heroes before with its trial and the game was pretty good. I wonder how a movie of this game will turn out? Will it be something like X-men, Fantastic Four, and Spider-man movies?

The Future of Console Hardware Design
Next generation console systems made its debut not too long ago and already next NEXT generation consoles are already in the works. Technology blows! Here's the full article,
"The next generation has just barely become the new generation, but the folks at Semiconductor Insights are already thinking about what might be under the hood of the next generation of consoles. In an article at TechOnline, SI manager Allan Yogasingam discusses how the focus of system design has tilted from simple cosmetics for the Atari 2600 to "cost, heat [management], cooling and [efficiency] test." in the 30 years since.
That cost bit might be the most important -- SI manager Greg Quirk predicts Sony and Microsoft will soon introduce 65 nanometer processors to reduce the costs associated with their current, 90-nanometer-chip systems. Yogasingam also predicts that the drive for cost reduction might lead console makers to look towards "second- and third-tier chip and software vendors " for the next generation. Someone better warn IBM that their gravy train might be in jeopardy.
What else is likely to be in the next generation of hardware? The SI team thinks 802.11n wireless, tilt-sensitive MEMS controller sensors and other entertainment features are likely to stay hot, but that's not exactly rocket science. Where are the bold predictions for things like laser cannon attachments and Holodeck-style projectors."

God and Heroes will redefine the MMORPG genre!
Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising is a new MMORPG by SOE and Perpetual Entertainment. From the looks of it, G&H will redefine the MMORPG genre! IMO, it has potential to knock off big players like WoW, LoTRO, Guild Wars, and future MMORPGs such as Age of Conan and Warhammer Online.
For some of you who aren't aware, G&H is taking closed beta signups recently.

Now tell me this isn't cool? Cannot wait to play this game!
